Cold Comfort

Fall is turning me into more of a homebody than ever--and I'm already someone who commonly accepts the label "hermit." Still colder weather makes me even less willing to venture out from beneath my covers in the morning, let alone out my front door. Life carries on even in the most miserable weather, so cozy knits like this hat are one key element to facing the day. I think people sometimes get dismissive or think it's flippant to talk about how your clothes give you strength, but there's so much comfort to be derived from a warm sweater both literal and figurative. I own sweaters that barely fit but still hang in my closet--remnants from childhood that take me back to places I once lived and people I used to know. I think the importance of clothes is a theme I return to often when winter creeps up, since it's a season of discomfort for me. But my thoughts are too scrambled at the moment to compose a succinct post on the serious nature of dressing and the emotive quality of clothes. Suffice to say, that even days when I stay inside cooking from my mother's recipes, I get out of my pajamas and put on clothes that provide more than just physical comfort...although cozy knits are definitely key.
